In
February 1939 Black Mountain College appropriated $800 for construction of
a small house at Lake Eden. Josef Albers drew the layout.
Local laborers with some help from students constructed the house in the spring. The cottage had two
bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a bath. The college planned to
build a number of cottages for the faculty.
The cottage was called at
times New Cottage, Finley's Fancy (for one of the workers), and Wood's
Cottage (for Mac and Emily Wood, who lived there for several years). Max
and Toni Dehn and the Clifford Moles family also lived in the house.
2007: The cottage has been
remodeled and a wing added on the right side. Is is a private residence. |
