STOLLER KNOERR
Private
Residence
"The simple barnlike form of this
hillside residence belies its dynamic flow of interior space as well as
its rich palette of materials and colors. it is a compact three-level
scheme designed for a retired couple. Its major components -- the main
living space and deck, the master bedroom, and observation tower -- all
focus to the south on an extraordinary distant view of the crashing surf
at Black Point. They are also arranged in an 'L' configuration to
provide a wind-protected outdoor space to the north. The ceramic tile
flooring in the main living space is incorporated in the passive solar
design which operates in conjunction with radiant heating throughout the
house."
