The Seven Springs Ranch was designed as a 420-unit solar community for retirees and workers in the Santa Clara Valley. Stoller writes, "Social technical and design considerations combine sensitive building and site treatment, a sound environmental ethic, and an awareness of long-term social needs. Varying housing types accommodate a range of incomes and life styles and all are energy efficient, utilizing solar heating and natural cooling. Much of the existing orchard remains to preserve the green belt environment for the clusters of dwellings." A group of "non-profit" townhouses are reserved for people on a fixed income. Community facilities include clubhouses, a pond, greenhouses and gardens, recreational spaces and a waste recycling center."
