The Surge Research Laboratory was designed for
maximum adaptability and flexibility to house new and as yet
undetermined research projects. It is situated on a steep hillside
heavily wooded with Eucalyptus trees. A structural steel frame uses
Vierendeel trusses to support the wood construction floors and roof.
These trusses allow unhampered horizontal runs of utilities and exhaust
ducts which connect to vertical stacks located in open spaces adjacent
to the corridors. Mechanical equipment is in roof enclosures.
